Staying Grounded

I found the following article on DailyOm.com . If you have never been to that website you should go check it out. I subscribe to several of their newsletters and really enjoy them a lot. March 29, 2006 Keeping Conscious Staying Grounded In A Busy World 1. Live simply and live deliberately. By choosing not to get caught up in the details of this fast-paced world, you are doing your part to slow down the speed of life. You will also discover that you have more time to enjoy being alive. 2. Stay in touch with yourself. Soul searching, meditation, and journaling are just a few of the many activities you can take part in to stay aware and learn as much as you can about your emotions, reactions, likes, dislikes, dreams, and fears. Having a solid sense of self gives you a firm foundation for living in this world. 3. Support or teach others as often as you can. "Load the ship and set out. No one knows for certain whether the vessel will sink or reach the harbor. Cautious people say, 'I'll do nothing until I can be sure'. Merchants know better. If you do nothing, you lose. Don't be one of those merchants who wont risk the ocean." ~Rumi

Happy people already know this:

"Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. Make all your friends feel there is something special in them. Look on the sunny side of everything. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give everyone you meet a smile. Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others. Be too big for worry and to noble for anger." ~Christian D. Larsen (also recognized as The Optimist Creed)

Change is good

"I've continued to recognize the power individuals have to change virtually anything and everything in their lives in an instant. I've learned that the resources we need to turn our dreams into reality are within us, merely waiting for the day when we decide to wake up and claim our birthright." ~Anthony Robbins If you could change one thing about yourself right now, what would it be?

If you have faith there is hope.

"Faith is not being sure where you’re going, but going anyway. A journey without maps." -Frederick Buechner

Dealing with fear

"The first step towards change is acceptance. Once you accept yourself, you open the door to change. That's all you have to do. Change is not something you do. It's something you allow." –Will Garcia For some reason this quote makes me think about dealing with fear. My belief is that you can do things to reduce your fears and while it is possible to eliminate fears completely that is unusual. I think more often people find new ways to cope or deal with their fears rather than overcoming them completely. For me what works when dealing with my fears is that I have to get to a point where I accept them. I acknowledge them. "Hello, Fear. I see you standing in the shadows of my life."
