Optimism defined

The ability to acknowledge that life really sucks sometimes and still, despite all the sucky stuff, be able to get up and live as enthusiastically as possible. Nobody ever said life was easy. Your attitude can make it better.

The challenge

Try doing just one thing at a time. Try not to multi-task. Try not to do it all. Try to be fully present in the moment. Try not to dwell too much on what has passed. Try not to worry about the future. Try to live this day and no others. Try to enjoy this moment because after it is gone, it is gone forever. Try to be right here, right now.

Simple Math

How many successful whiners do you know? _____ What is the average amount of time you want to spend listening to someone else's pity party? _____ If one person is blaming everyone else for everything and another is justifying all of their actions with excuses, how many minutes does it take you to become completely disinterested? _____
Steps for getting out of a rut: 1. Release : Let go of what it is that is holding you down or back. Set the feelings or thoughts to pen and paper, rip the paper to shreds and burn them. Find a significant and tangible method of releasing your emotions. 2. Refocus : With the release complete begin to refocus your goals for yourself. What do you really want and why do you want it? Assign values to your values. What is important to you. Make a list. 3. Reclaim : Claim that list. Own it. Make it yours because it is yours. Acknowledge that you deserve it because you do. You built it in your heart, you wrote it on your paper it is your reality. Take it now. 4. Re-energize : If you've been in a rut you haven't taken care of yourself physically. Go for a walk immediately regardless of the weather. Fresh air is good for your head. Eat some fruit, drink lots of water. Find your spirit - the piece of you in the center of your soul, the fire in your bel
Never. Never let someone guilt you for a decision that they made...as tho they had done you a favor by deciding as they did. Never say yes if your gut is screaming no. And vice versa. Never give someone the power to make you miserable. Not even yourself. Never settle. Dust settles. Be bigger than dust. Never stop dreaming but remember the dream doesn't get you what you want....the doing does. Never go a day without telling yourself something wonderful about yourself. Kind words and compliments rarely go unappreciated...regardless of who utters them.
Sunday Morning Mantras: Eliminate drama and chaos from your life. Look for opportunities to be genuinely happy. Being loved and respected should not be a battle that you have to fight and win. Avoid people that do not genuinely and naturally love and respect you. Avoid opportunities to change other people. Look for the good in everything and everyone but if you have to look too hard or too often for that goodness...move along.
Put yourself first. Yes...that means you. Your instruction is simple: Put yourself in front of that person right there...the one standing next to you, or ahead of you or somehow near you. Step ahead to the front of the line. Take care of what is important to YOU before you take care of what is important to THEM. Whoever THEM is. Yes. I really mean you. You. Come. First. You think you are good to others by putting them first...you aren't. You aren't doing anybody any favors by not taking care of your needs. You are your priority. Any questions?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Make a list, even if only in your head, of every possible reason why you could thank somebody. Then start saying thank you.
A liar is a liar is a liar is a liar. If they lie to you once they will lie to you twice. Then three times, and four times and on and on until you cannot stand to be lied to anymore. How long will you tolerate the lies before you say enough and get this negative energy out of your life?
Most things don't happen overnight. Most things don't happen because you want them to. It takes time... And energy... And persistence... To get what you want. Achieving goals isn't supposed to be easy. If it was...what would you be achieving?
You can have the best argument - the best reasoning in the world - but the only mind you can ultimately make, change or control is your own. There is nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree. The world does not have to share your beliefs.
Never worry about the unknown. Worrying is a part of human nature. But sometimes human nature is not the best thing for us silly humans. We worry about the what-if’s in life. How many what-if's are you worried about? Stop worrying about what MIGHT happen. Focus on what IS happening. And trust that IF something DOES happen... You can deal with it.
Prioritizing is something that has to be worked on every single day. It doesn't just happen. Your to-do's need your time and attention. They don't put themselves in order. It is up to you to do that. Take time to tend to your time.
When the walls of your world feel like they are caving in... When the kids are driving you mad... When you don't know how you will find the money for the necessities... When work is out of control... When traffic makes you late... When you feel so tired, and so worn down that all you want to do is cry... Stop. And cry. Put the kids to bed... Quit looking at the balance in the checkbook... Leave your work at the office... Forget that you were late... Find a dimly lit room in the house... Add some aromatherapy... Some soft soothing music... Open windows for fresh air... Shut off the phones... Lie on the floor surrounded by all of your favorite pillows... And cry. Cry until... You are tired of crying... Until you cannot cry anymore... Cry until you are angry... Cry until you are ready to take action. Then... Take ten deep breaths... In with good... Out with bad... Slowly get up... Wash your face...
Avoiding the to-dos that you don't want to do does not make them go away. Sit down and deal with them now. Stop waiting...they aren't going anywhere on their own. The sooner you get them done, the sooner you will feel better. What are you avoiding?
Nothing happens on its own. If you want money in the bank, you have to start putting money in the bank. If you want to change your career, you have to look for work that appeals to you. If you want to be more organized, you have to start organizing. The things you want are out there waiting for you to go get them. What are you waiting for?

All building starts at the bottom. If you ever feel like you've hit bottom, you are in the right place to start building.
I believe life is a series of choices and I intend to make choices that are right for me. If my choices offend you, please remember it isn't about you.
Monday Morning Mantra: I am surrounded by good people and good things. There is no space for negativity in my day.
"Birds sing after a storm ; why shouldn't people feel as free to delight in whatever sunlight remains to them?" ~Rose Kennedy, Times to Remember I was never promised a life without struggles and challenges. Storms come and go and it is not about the storm and what it takes from me, but what it leaves me with in the end. I'm looking at a sinkhole in my back yard and a mudslide in my crawlspace. My furnace and water heater are submerged in mud and my gas is now shut off which means we are now living without hot water. But my house is still standing. My kids still have their beds to crawl into at night. I still have electricity. I'm about to learn all about the ins and outs of home owners insurance. I can vacuum. I can cook. I can play in my front yard with my kids. I'm about to get an education in landscaping. I can chat with my neighbors. I can walk the dog around the circle. I can park my car in the garage at night. I
Nobody wakes up and plans to have a bad day. But you CAN plan to have a good day. Things that could be in your good day plan: ~A smile on your face ~A new joke to tell ~An optimistic attitude ~Time spent doing something you enjoy ~The ability to let go of the things you cannot control ~The positive influence of someone you admire and respect ~A quiet moment ~A reason to laugh out loud I'm planning on having a good day...are you?
"If you treat every situation as a life-and-death matter, you will die a lot of times." ~Unknown Let's try not to lose anyone today, mmmmkay?
In a conversation with my good friend and coach about David Wagners book, The Life of a DayMaker , Babs asked me if I had done the two word exercise. I hadn't...but decided to do it. If you could only have two words on your tombstone, what would they be? This is the list I came up with. The one I decided on is bolded at the end. I create. I solve. I build. I think. I inspire. I laugh. I motivate. I resolve. I fix. I impress. I learn. I write. I imagine. I charm. I dream. I act. I do. I commit. I absorb. I connect. I perform. I excel. I achieve. I pursue. I focus. I select. I immerse. I hook. I consume. I mesmerize. I contemplate. I design. I arrange. I expect. I decide. I watch. I occupy. I enthuse. I engross. I utilize. I ravish. I hold. I hypnotize. I enamor. I charm. I claim. I keep. I give. I love. I feel. I hear. I rest. I react. I believe. I taste. I see. I touch. I try. I fail. I start. I trust. I spe
Your day can only be as good as your attitude. What is your attitude like today? Do you feel like it is comparable to how you would describe your day?
Welcome to Kathzoofus, a weblog for the inspired masses! What the hell does that mean? Simple. Unlike my other weblog where stories are fictionalized and fun is the order of the day, Kathzoofus is designed to make you think. Some of what will be posted here will be simple tidbits of inspiration pulled from the paper based journals that I carry with me most everywhere. Some will be more in depth writings and maybe on occassion, a question based post. Most of what you see here will come from my journal titled, "Me Majesty. If I am a Kingdom, these are my laws." A comments system is in place but posts are designed to get you thinking in your head. You only need to share if you feel motivated to do so. That is it...that is Kathzoofus in a nutshell. I hope to see you around.
